Tammy the Cheetah Gives Birth
This year, Africam and the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) partnered to bring you closer than ever to observing a live cheetah birth. One of the potential cheetah mothers was 9-year-old Tammy, and boy, did she deliver! (pun intended). Both Tammy and her cubs are healthy and thriving in the HESC boma, where they will remain for approximately three months. After this period, they’ll be moved to a larger enclosure, with the hope that the cubs may one day be reintroduced into the wild. Africam and HESC are pleased with the cubs’ development so far. They’ve opened their eyes and are beginning to find their feet, all under the watchful eye of Mama Tammy. Watch the highlight below to witness a small but meaningful milestone in their long journey.

A Pair of Penguin Hatchlings at Stony Point
In other exciting news, two African penguin eggs recently hatched at Stony Point. Since the hatchlings are still in a vulnerable stage, their attentive penguin parents are carefully protecting them in their nest. We hope to see them leave the nest in the coming months and continue to grow stronger each day.

Nest Watch is On with Selatis Black Eagles
Also on our baby watchlist are the potential Black Eagle chicks – egg watch, if you will. This year, Africam has partnered with the Selati Wilderness Foundation (SWF) to bring you a new Black Eagle camera. The eagle pair appears to have selected their nest site, and SWF believes the female may have laid two eggs. If so, they are expected to hatch within the next 44 to 45 days. Once the chicks have hatched, you can witness the phenomenon known as Cainism, in which one of the chicks will dominate and kill their sibling. The surviving chick will then grow from strength to strength under the care of both parents.
