November 3rd, 2025
Posted in: Competitions
We’re thrilled to announce the winner of October’s photo competition, themed “Small Things.” After much deliberation and admiration for the many wonderful entries we received, one image stood out above the rest. The winning photograph, titled “Triangles on a Flower,” was beautifully captured by Kelly Xx at Mahali Mzuri.

Why This Photo Stood Out
This captivating image, titled “Triangles on a Flower,” perfectly captures the essence of October’s theme, Small Things. At first glance, it’s a quiet, almost hidden scene – a delicate moth resting on a flower surrounded by buds and leaves. But upon closer inspection, the photo reveals an intricate world that often goes unnoticed in the rush of daily life.
This image invites us into the intimate details of nature, highlighting the beauty in the minute. The moth, with its striking triangular markings, becomes a focal point amidst the tangle of stems and soft petals. It’s a reminder that the smallest creatures play vital roles in the ecosystem, from pollination to the intricate balance of life that sustains the wild.
From a technical standpoint, this photograph stands out for its composition and depth of field. The central placement of the moth draws the viewer’s eye immediately, while the surrounding foliage and flower buds create a textured, layered background that adds depth without distraction. The monochrome palette enhances contrast and detail, emphasizing shape and form over colour – perfectly suited to the theme, as it directs attention to structure and subtlety rather than spectacle.
“Triangles on a Flower” reminds us that beauty often exists in the quietest corners of the wild. It’s a fitting and worthy winner of this month’s photo competition – an image that encourages us to pause, look closer, and see the extraordinary within the ordinary.
