SafariSnaps Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to SafariSnaps!

SafariSnaps is the perfect way to put your wildlife identification skills to the test by snapping and tagging the incredibly diverse species seen on our Africams. Every animal has a rarity score based on how often it appears on the cameras. Playing is easy. While watching any Africam livestream, use the “SafariSnap” feature to snap and tag your favourite animals. Once you snap and tag an animal, it will be added to your profile and contribute to your position on the SafariSnaps Leaderboard.

To ensure SafariSnaps remains fair, fun, and enjoyable for everyone, please follow the guidelines below.

Snapping & Tagging Rules

Clear Identification: Your snap must clearly show the animal you are tagging. If the animal cannot be reasonably identified from the image, the snap may be removed and your score adjusted accordingly.

One tag per animal, per camera, per sighting: You may only tag the same animal once on the same camera during a live sighting. For SafariSnaps purposes, a live sighting is generally defined as a two-hour period. This means you may only tag the same animal on the same camera once every two hours. If this rule is not followed, duplicate snaps may be removed and your score adjusted accordingly. 

Animal and Character Tags: You may not tag both an animal and its named character within the same two-hour timeframe. For example, the resident hippo at The Hide is named Moto Moto. Within the two-hour period, you may tag either Hippopotamus or Moto Moto…but not both. If this rule is not followed, duplicate snaps may be removed and your score adjusted accordingly. 

Reporting Repeated Tags: If you notice a community member repeatedly tagging outside of the above guidelines, please report it to an Africam staff member and we will handle the matter accordingly.

Deleting Unclear, Duplicated or Incorrect Snaps: Africam has the right to delete any unclear, duplicated, or incorrectly tagged snaps after 2 hours. This should provide enough time for a tag to be updated if necessary. 

Rarity Scores & Animal Listings

Rarity scores are determined by how frequently species are seen on the Africams. These scores may differ from how rare the species is in the wild or within a particular region.

Africam reserves the right to adjust rarity scores, add or remove animals or characters, and update game mechanics where necessary.

Descriptions

Adding a description to your snap is optional. If you choose to include one, please use it to highlight any unique behaviour, features, interactions, or observations specific to that sighting.

Please note: Do not post any unlawful, abusive, defamatory, threatening, obscene, profane, sexually explicit, racially offensive, or otherwise objectionable content in the description of your snap. Any snaps with descriptions containing this type of content will be deleted.

Zero-Point Tags

Rhinos are endangered and remain under serious threat from poaching. To help protect them, rhino tags are only permitted at HESC and Founders Lodge. Please note that rhino tags carry zero points and will not contribute to your overall score.

The African Landscape tag also carries zero points. This category can be used to tag landscapes, cloudscapes, sunrises and sunsets, plant life, and generally scenic moments.

In addition, the Crossing tag also carries zero points. This is simply used for alerts when a river crossing is occurring at either Main Crossing or Fig Tree.
