Congratulations to this Month’s Winner!

April’s theme, Faces of the Wild, invited the Africam community to get closer – capturing the expressions, personalities, and quiet moments that reveal the true character of the animals we share this world with. From intense predator gazes to gentle, fleeting portraits, April’s entries brought us face-to-face with the wild in the most intimate way.

We’re delighted to announce that Kelly Xx is our April winner with the beautifully evocative image titled Hanging Out, captured along the Olifants River.

Why This Photo Stood Out

There’s something instantly disarming about this photo. A baboon lies draped over a tree branch, completely at ease, its posture almost human in its quiet vulnerability. Rather than a direct, piercing gaze, this portrait reveals the baboons “face” through mood and body language, capturing a moment of pure stillness. Bathed in warm, golden light, the scene feels intimate and unguarded, inviting the viewer to pause and share in this fleeting sense of calm.

Technically, the composition is beautifully balanced. The branch creates a strong leading line, while the tree frames the subject with rich texture and depth. Soft, golden-hour lighting enhances the natural tones and gently separates the baboon from the muted river backdrop, drawing focus without distraction. It’s a subtle yet powerful interpretation of Faces of the Wild , proving that expression isn’t always in the eyes, but in the feeling a moment leaves behind.

Kelly Xx’s Hanging Out is a standout example of how simplicity, patience, and a keen eye for emotion can transform an everyday wildlife moment into something truly memorable. Congratulations again on a well-deserved win!
